Dot Matrix Ribbons

Critical to the operation of the printer, but often taken for granted, is the Ribbon Cassette. On installation, the ribbon becomes an integral part of the printer, as important as the PC attached to it. For this very reason Star Micronics spends as much time developing ribbons as printers.

The ribbon is made up of three basic components - the ink, the ribbon and the mechanism.

• The formulation of the ink is of paramount importance. Lubricants have been included to ensure the life and quality of the print head. The ink itself is put through a grinding process so intense as to eliminate any abrasive qualities, which could shorten the life of the print head.
• The tension and weave of the Star ribbon and mechanism has been precisely matched to the printer, thereby lessening the danger of snagging, twisting or tearing. More importantly it reduces the risk of the ribbon jamming, causing permanent damage to the carriage mechanism.

Caring For Your Star Consumables

• Do not remove the ribbon from its packaging until it is required.
• Never leave a matrix ribbon in an unusually hot or dry environment.
• Do not be tempted to use poor quality compatible ribbons.
